Are your teeth stained or
discoloured?

Teeth Whitening

Teeth can become discoloured for many reasons, from food and drink stains to natural ageing. If you're not happy with your smile, a teeth whitening treatment could help you to feel more positive about your appearance.

Our dentists at Moranbah Dental can whiten your teeth at our clinic or give you a personalised whitening kit to use at home. To find out more or book a consultation, call our team today on (07) 4941 7336.

Who can benefit from teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening can remove most common stains and discolouration from teeth, leaving them naturally whiter. This includes food and drink stains (such as tea and coffee, red wine, soft drinks and sauces), tobacco stains, and teeth that have turned yellow due to ageing.

If your teeth have been discoloured due to trauma or a side-effect of medication, teeth whitening may not be effective. We can discuss other options such as dental veneers or replacing old dental crowns and fillings.

To be a candidate for teeth whitening treatments, you must be over 18 and have good oral health, as the presence of tooth decay, gum disease or other problems can affect the treatment's success. We'll let you know if you're eligible for teeth whitening during your consultation with our dentists.

What are my teeth whitening options?

We offer two types of teeth whitening at Moranbah Dental: professional in-chair whitening and take-home whitening kits. We'll explain the pros and cons of both options so you can decide what's best for you. We'll also make sure you have a realistic idea of what kind of results you can expect for your smile.

In-chair whitening

We use the Philips Zoom! whitening system to improve patient comfort and results. Your dentist will make sure your mouth is protected and gently apply whitening gel to your teeth. The gel is cured using blue LED light, which can brighten teeth by up to 8 shades.

Only a qualified dental professional can provide in-chair teeth whitening. Depending on the individual, the treatment may take as little as 60 minutes.

Take-home whitening kit

If you prefer to have a treatment in the comfort of your own home, we'll take impressions of your teeth to create custom whitening trays. Whitening gel should be placed in these trays and worn over your teeth for as long as your dentist recommends.

Home teeth whitening can take 1 to 2 weeks, depending on how much whitening is needed. It's imperative that you follow your dentist's instructions to improve your chance of a successful outcome and avoid problems.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Teeth whitening with our experienced dentists involves minimal risk, but we'll still make sure you understand the possible side effects so you can make an informed decision. These can include teeth feeling more sensitive after whitening and damage to teeth or gums if a home whitening kit isn't used correctly.

It's also important to know that teeth whitening isn't a permanent solution. Its effects will start to fade over time, but may be maintained by using a whitening toothpaste recommended by our dentists or top-up treatments. You should also try to avoid common sources of stains, follow good oral hygiene and have regular teeth cleaning appointments at our clinic to help your smile stay whiter for longer.
